Privacy Policy
ExposurePal is built for people who deserve privacy without having to ask for it. The short version: everything you do in the app stays on your phone. We don't run servers that hold your data, and we don't sell or share anything about you.
What stays on your device
- Your location when you run a mission, plus recorded routes and stops if you enable Remember my outings
- Your confirmed home location, when automatic outing recording is enabled
- Photos you take and journal notes you write
- The list of places you've visited and how often
- Settings like your preferred maximum distance
History is stored locally using Apple's SwiftData; recording also uses a durable local event log. It is not transmitted to any server we operate. If you delete the app, this data is gone.
What we don't do
- We do not create user accounts.
- We do not use analytics, advertising, tracking pixels, or third-party SDKs that profile you.
- We do not sell, rent, or share any data about you with anyone.
- We do not upload your outing history, photos, or journal entries to our servers. Apple processes map, place-search, and place-name requests as described below.
Permissions the app asks for
- Location (When In Use): used to find places near you via Apple's Maps, and to measure your distance from the start of a mission. Apple processes the map searches; nothing about the result is sent to us.
- Location (Always and Precise): requested only when you enable Remember my outings, to recognize departure, stops, and return home while the app is not open. Automatic recording is off by default and can be turned off in Me without deleting history.
- Motion: used with optional automatic recording to distinguish movement and stops.
- Photos: only when you choose to attach a photo to a visit, using Apple's standard photo picker. The selected photo is saved on your device with that visit. We never receive a copy.
You can revoke these permissions at any time in iOS Settings.
Apple Maps and Apple's services
Place searches go through Apple Maps. Their handling is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not receive copies of your queries.
TestFlight
If you're using the app via TestFlight, Apple may collect crash logs and any feedback you choose to send. This is governed by Apple's TestFlight terms and is separate from the app itself. Crash reports help us fix bugs and contain no personal content from inside the app.
Children
ExposurePal is not designed for or directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data about children.
Changes to this policy
If anything material changes about how the app handles data, this page will be updated and the date at the top will reflect the change.
